POINT OF CARE ULTRASOUND WORKSHOP

This workshop focuses on improving clinical decision making in sick neonates through an integrated approach with point of care ultrasound. The emphasis is on merging the subjectivity of the clinical examination with the objectivity that real-time dynamic ultrasonography provides. This workshop is for all clinicians interested in learning how to perform integrated problem-based assessments where it matters most: at the bedside.

Didactics

Didactic sessions focused on heart, lung, brain integrated assessments and clinical algorithms for decision making in crashing infants

Hands-on Skills

Each participant will have the opportunity for hands-on practice to learn the basics of ultrasound physics, knobology, image acquisition, and image interpretation

COURSE OBJECTIVES


At the end of this learning activity the learners will be able to:

  • Develop an understanding of the basic physics and principles of ultrasound technology 
  • Gain an appreciation for the utility of point of care ultrasound in Neonatology 
  • Diagnose conditions commonly and reliably identified using point of care ultrasound 
  • Optimize procedural skills in neonatology by using bedside point of care ultrasound technology
  • Perform integrated assessments using clinical parameters and point of care assessments

How this workshop is different from other similar workshops?

  • This is an interactive workshop with an emphasis on hands-on image acquisition 
  • This is the only workshop of its kind to provide trainees with an opportunity for remote training and practice under supervision

  • Attending Neonatologists, Fellows, Residents and Nurse practitioners interested in hands-on training in point of care ultrasound in Neonatology
  • Pediatricians, Emergency Physicians, Radiologists, Sonographers, Allied health care workers (including Respiratory therapists, occupational therapists, etc.) 
  • Anyone interested in expanding their scope of practice to include POCUS in a neonatal and/or pediatric practice
